Only the finest handwoven textiles

Shazia Saleem London specialises in sustainable fashion using only the finest hand woven textiles, particularly from India and Scotland.  We design with quality and luxurious natural fibres, organic and cruelty-free where possible.  Every style in our designs contains at least one hand woven textile to ensure there is sustained employment for weavers.

Coveted throughout the ancient world, India's rich history of hand weaving stretches back many thousands of years. Now, however, it is a dying industry as skilled weavers struggle to compete with industrialisation.  Harris Tweed is a prestigious luxury hand woven textile from The Hebrides, often referred to as the champagne of textiles, and is also part of a decline in awareness and demand for handwoven textiles.  Through contemporary design, our company's objective is to help revive the hand weaving industry by making it as covetable as it once was and preserve hand weaving skills for future generations of weavers.

We design with hand woven brocades from Varanasi, ahimsa (cruelty-free) and wild silks hand woven from Assam, Orissa and the rest of India, hand woven Khadi cottons from Bengal, Kolkata and Jaipur. In addition we design with hand woven wastage and recycled silk.

Peace (or ahimsa) silk is cruelty free silk and is used extensively throughout all our collections. In particular we work with beautiful wild Tussar silk from Orissa. The cocoons are collected from the forest only after the moth has hatched to be hand-spun and hand woven. Tussar silk is considered auspicious due to its purity. Shazia Saleem London supports the Indian Silk Mark scheme for quality assurance.

Showcasing the best in hand weaving luxury craft, Shazia Saleem London's partners in India conduct continuous research and development, creating some of the finest cashmere shawls in the world - lighter and finer than the famed Shahtoosh, but without cruelty to the mountain goat.

Hand woven fabrics are as resilient as machine woven fabrics.
